WELLSHIRE NEIGHBORHOOD |
|
The Wellshire neighborhood, a mix of old and new homes, is bounded by Yale Avenue on the north, Colorado Blvd. on the east, Hampden Avenue on the south and University Blvd. on the west. The neighborhood lies a short distance from Observatory Park, Eisenhower Park and the Wellshire Municipal Golf Course.
With its expansive lots, low crime rates and great schools—the Slavens school being a key selling point—the neighborhood attracts many young families. Wellshire homes include mostly ranch-style brick homes built primarily in the late 1950s and early 1960s. And like its northern neighbor, University Park, new and renovated homes are propping up throughout the neighborhood.
Some of the main attractions for Wellshire are wide roads with low traffic levels, proximity to Cherry Creek’s shopping districts, an 18-minute commute to downtown, access to light rail at the Yale station, the Highline Canal Bike Trail and a number of area parks. Wellshire golf course is one of Denver´s best public golf courses. Originally, it was a private country club that was purchased by the city and county of Denver when the club experienced difficult financial times in the 1950´s, and now serves as one of the most picturesque golf courses in Denver. The historic Wellshire Inn is also a major dining experience that is open to the public.
