UNIVERSITY PARK NEIGHBORHOOD

 

The University Park neighborhood lies just south of the I-25/Buchtel Blvd. corridor, west of Colorado Blvd., north of Yale Avenue, and east of S. University Blvd. University Park lies just east of the University of Denver, a longtime Denver landmark and home to a well-respected law school and business school. Streets bordering the park are graced by lovely Victorian-style homes. Nearby Observatory Park actually houses a small working observatory.

 

Observatory Park serves as a recreational focal point for the neighborhood, with fields for ball games, volleyball, and tennis courts. The park is large and popular with local residents. Picnics, football and soccer games abound. There’s even a baseball field not to mention the working observatory owned by the University of Denver.

People who live here enjoy being able to walk for coffee or to a restaurant near the University. The University itself offers a variety of local cultural events and sporting games, including NCAA division 1 hockey and basketball and baseball. Swimming and exercise centers are open to the public.

The center of University Park’s cultural activity is the University of Denver. The area features some of south Denver’s finest architecture, with tree-lined streets, large estates and quaint carriage houses. The diverse community entails classic brick homes with wide front porches and wide, shady lawns that add character to University Park’s desirable status. The appealing architecture attracts a higher price residents of mostly professionals, retirees or affluent families with kids. There area is sprinkled with more affordable apartment buildings closer to the DU’s campus on University Blvd, such as Tabor House, Heritage House Apartments, and Carriage House Apartments. The Boulevard Park Apartments and Wellshire Apartments are located near Colorado Blvd.
